An External ID Validation Check can be used to validate the ID of a DBS applicant if that person does not have sufficient ID to validate their ID through Route 1 of the DBS identity verification process.

Please refer to the DBS List of Acceptable ID to view a detailed list of Route 1 ID documents.

An External ID Validation Check is required to verify an applicant's ID via Route 2 of the DBS identity verification process.

It is not a stand-alone ID check; other ID documents still need be provided by the applicant to complete Route 2.

An External ID Validation Check validates the names, addresses and date of birth details (i.e: the identity) of a DBS applicant.

Yes, our External ID Validation check service does comply a ‘Medium confidence’ check (previously known as ‘identity level 2’) – as detailed in the Good Practice Guide (GPG) 45 (as required by the DBS).

Having "Medium confidence" in the person’s identity will lower the risk of you:

accepting synthetic identities
accepting impostors who are not close friends or family of the identity they’re pretending to be
accepting impostors who do not look like the identity they’re pretending to be

Medium confidence also provides some protection against accepting impostors who are close friends or family of the identity they’re pretending to be.

Requests for External ID Validation Checks are submitted to us online, via a secure, encrypted online Form.

Full instructions will be sent to you when you create an account with us, or when you are nominated as an approved requester

Please note: requests will only be accepted by approved requesters nominated by your Account Manager.

You will need the explicit consent from the individual (the applicant) that you are obtaining an External ID Validation Check for. We recommend this is obtained in writing. You may wish to use this sample consent form.

You will need to provide the following information on the form (about the applicant):

Gender
Title
Full Current Name (including any middle names)
Date of Birth
Current address, including postcode

On receipt of your online request we will carry out the External ID Validation Check.

The result will be issued as a report (in PDF format) to you by email.

Results will be emailed to you within 24 hours of a request being received by us (*excluding weekends or public holidays)

The report will confirm if the ID of the applicant has been validated or not validated.
