1.  What are Employee Credit Checks?

To complement your employment screening process, we also offer online Employee Credit Checks, so you can verify your candidates financial history.


An Employee Credit Check gives you the peace of mind that your new recruits or staff have no history of financial mis-management.


An Employee Credit Check is a UK financial check and will provide information on the following:

  1. Public Information:  This summarises public information held about the individual including
    Insolvency records and Court Judgments recorded against the candidate at all of the
    addresses entered within the search; specifically:
    • Bankruptcies and Insolvencies (BAI)  
    • County Court Judgements (CCJ)
    • The information will include decrees, sequestrations, trust deeds, IVAs, bankruptcies, debt relief orders and CCJ records for the last six years. The section details how many judgements are active or have been satisfied/discharged.
  2. Credit Search History:  Our Employee Credit Check details of the number of credit searches over three month and twelve month periods. High levels of credit searches or a sudden high level of credit searches could indicate a high level of existing debt and/or a sudden requirement for debt.
  3. Undeclared Links:
    • Number of Undeclared Addresses
    • Number of Undeclared Aliases (aliases/other names by which the candidate is known by (i.e maiden name)).
  4. Notices:  Individuals have the option to correct or dispute information contained in their credit file.  Or Employee Credit Check summarizes whether there are any corrections or notices.  You should discuss any corrections or disputes with the candidate, if they appear on the report.
  5. Residency Confirmation
  6. Electoral Roll registration history (edited version)

3.  What's the Process? How Do I request an Employee Credit Check?

We have teamed up with Experian, a registered credit reference agency; to provide you with Employee Credit Checks.

In order to use our Employee Credit Check Service you need to have an account with us.  Click here to Create an Account with us.  It is free and under no obligation.

Once your account is set-up we will email you instructions on how you can request Employee Credit Checks.


A summary of the Employee Credit Check order process is as follows:


Step 1: Obtain Applicant (Candidate) Consent: 


Obtain Applicant (Candidate) Consent by asking your candidate to complete the Employee Credit Check Applicant Consent form. Save this form for your records.

 

Step 2: Complete and Submit anEmployee Credit Check Request form:

Enter the candidate’s details onto our secure online Employee Credit Check Order Form and submit this to us.  

  • Note:
    • New Customers:  We will provide you with access to the Employee Credit Check Order Form when you create an account with us
    • Existing Customers:  Please contact us to request access to the Employee Credit Check Order Form


You will need to provide the following information on the Employee Credit Check Order Form (about the candidate):

  • Your candidates Title

  • Your candidates Full Current Name (including any middle names)

  • Your candidates Full Previous Name/s Used (most recent) and dates (month and year) used from and to

  • Your candidates Date of Birth

  • Your candidates Current address, including postcode and date (month and year) they moved into this address

  • Your candidates Last Previous address (if lived in current address for less than 5 years) and dates (month and year) lived there


On receipt of your completed online Employee Credit Check Order Form we will carry out the Employee Credit Check.  


We will check :


  • County Court Judgments (CCJs), 
  • Bankruptcies and Insolvencies (BAI) including sequestrations, trust deeds, IVAs, bankruptcies, debt relief orders and CCJ records for the last six years; 
  • Credit Search History, 
  • Number of Undeclared Addresses, 
  • Number of Undeclared Aliases, 
  • Notices, 
  • Residency Confirmation and
  • the Electoral Roll registration history (edited version)
  • and a Credit Score comparing your candidate with the UK population as a whole (please note, this check does not affect your candidates credit score)

The Employee Credit Check report will be emailed to you within 24 hours* of a request being received by us (*excluding weekends or public holidays).



4.  The Law

The information provided on the Employee Credit Check electronic summary report is personal data and is strictly regulated by law.  


You need to ensure you comply with the Data Protection Act.


In brief:

  • You should never allow anyone outside your organisation to have access to the information we provide
  • You should never search anyone without a valid reason (and without their consent)
  • You should never disclose any log-in details we provide to you to anyone else 
  • An Employee Credit Check should only be obtained if it is relevant to a candidates' job or work role

5.  What information will my candidate need to provide?

In order to conduct an Employee Credit Check we’ll need the following information regarding your candidate (new recruit):

You will submit this to us via a secure, encrypted online form:

  • Their Title (e.g: Mr, Mrs etc)
  • Their Full Current Name provided as Forename, Middle Name/s, Surname (including the dates they were known by this name)
  • Any Previous Names used split by Forename, Middle Names, Surname (including the dates they were known by this name)
  • Their Date of Birth
  • Their Current address and most recent previous address (if they moved within the last 5 years) and dates they lived at each address.
